In this play about the classic types, Martha and Mary, Martha strikes back! (Were you expecting anything else?)
Here, perhaps for the first time in these plays, I let my own biases and theological preferences rule the day, which I’ve said I’d try never to do. I take sides! I’ve always thought it was a terrible fate for Martha to have been cut off and put down like that after making a perfectly reasonable complaint about her sister, and of course, any answer she might have made lost to history because the Gospels were written by men and Jesus was, well, Jesus.
So, I’ve done what I can to even the score. I hope you enjoy my version of how that evening ought to have turned out. (And who knows? Maybe it did!)
